Compared to the older ATI Straton Pro series, the ATI Straton X introduces several key improvements that many reef keepers are excited about. First and foremost, the Straton X is significantly lighter and more compact — weighing only about 2.5 kg (5.5 lbs) with an ultra-thin profile (~9 mm thick) thanks to its all-aluminum, fanless design. In contrast, the Straton Pro models (such as the 102 Gen 2) weigh around 8.4 lbs and, while still sleek, are noticeably heavier and thicker in construction.

Another major improvement is the added mounting flexibility that the Straton X offers. While the Straton Pro fixtures typically include a hanging kit and require aftermarket STAR mounting systems or accessory kits to adapt to tank-side mounting, the Straton X was designed with optional tank mounting arms and suspension kits right from the start. These new arms allow for seamless, minimalist attachment directly to the aquarium’s back glass — a mounting option the Straton Pro didn’t originally offer, giving hobbyists a much cleaner and more customizable setup without relying entirely on ceiling hangers or rails.

Together with the Straton X’s updated LED array, improved spectrum tuning, and enhanced control via the ATI Reef Pilot app, these physical design and mounting upgrades make the Straton X feel like a true next-generation evolution of the Straton Pro platform for serious reef lighting.
