Standard acrylic filter lenses often overcorrect aquarium lighting, cutting too much blue and removing the brilliant fluorescent glow that makes corals look so alive. The TrueReef Filter Lens by Maxspect changes that. Featuring an innovative blue monomer coating, this lens selectively reflects harsh high-energy visible (HEV) blue light while preserving near-UV fluorescence. The result is vibrant, balanced photos that look true to what your eyes see in person.
How it Works
Traditional yellow or orange acrylic lenses block large portions of the blue spectrum (400–480 nm), which often removes the very wavelengths that produce coral fluorescence. The TrueReef lens uses a blue monomer coating that reflects a portion of HEV light instead of simply absorbing it, keeping the delicate near-UV glow (around 420 nm and below). This provides:
- True-to-life color without a flat, oversaturated look
- Preserved coral fluorescence and vivid detail
- Cleaner contrast between corals and background rock
Gouda vs. Sunset Boulevard Lenses
- Gouda Lens (Yellow): Allows some of the violets and blue to get through. This lens offers a more subtle correction.
- Sunset Boulevard Lens (Orange): Filters out all the violet, blue, and cyan. This lens is better for setups that feature heavy blue lighting.
