Progressive density mesh mechanical filtration system can be used as a system or separately. Aquamesh, also referred to as Metala, is the perfect pre-filters for sumps and pond filtration. We use Aquamesh in our Biotek Marine sumps and it is available in 4 different densities.

Aquamesh #1 is great for removal of large debris and free floating particles most commonly used as a first stage to allow longer use of finer stages between cleanings.

Dimensions:19.5" x 24" x 1.5"

The Aquamesh progressive filter pads are great for pre-filtration in sumps. They have a very rigid design that will not collapse like traditional filter floss. The Progressive pads come in 4 different densities that can be ran in succession for long term use, or just a single pad can be ran as well depending on what your system needs. The stiffness of the pads makes cleaning very easy to be used over and over again.

How to Use

Matala Aquamesh Filter Media Pads can be simply placed into your waterfall filter without any issues of the pad floating away. It can be cut to your desired size to match any of your current filter media. Clean your Matala Filter Media Pads sparingly and only if necessary. Overzealous cleaning will lead to bacteria loss and it will take some time for your biological filtration to get going again. With pond application, Matala Filter Media Pads should be used throughout the  pond season and cleaned for storage before winter temperatures occur. If using with an aquarium, simply rinse the aquamesh in aquarium water when doing a water change to remove dutritus buildup and preserve helpful probiotic bacterial.

For best results, pair both medium-density and high-density media pads together and place them vertically in your filter box.

How to Cut

There are several ways to cut a Matala Aquamesh filter media pad:

  • Jigsaw with a fine-tooth blade
  • 8" long sharp carving knife
  • A band saw like our Gryphon Aquasaws can also be used to cut Aquamesh
  • Masonry blade turned backward on a circular saw.
