A Standard Carbon block works well to remove chlorine, however, more and more municipalities are mixing ammonia with chlorine; this combination is known as Chloramines. The standard carbon block will strip the chlorine and leave the ammonia gas behind. As you may know, ammonia is toxic to many life forms. Not only will the ammonia gas quickly exhaust the DI cartridge, it will also damage your RO Membrane. The AquaFX Chloramine Blaster Carbon is a high grade catalytic carbon that will remove the ammonia. Thereby removing the chloramines from your water. 2 Chloramine Blaster Carbon Cartridges must be used in-series for sufficient contact time and effective Chloramines removal.
