NEPTUNE DOS PRE-ORDER FROM AQUARIUM SPECIALTY

Neptune DOS Dosing Pump

The new Neptune Systems "DOS" pumps are now available for pre-order from Aquarium Specialty. According to our Neptune Systems representative, the first product shipment will occur no later than Mid-November, possibly sooner.  Due to limited availability during its initial release, Neptune Systems is allocating only 15 of these systems to each of its authorized distributors.  Aquarium Specialty will accept the first 15 pre-orders and then mark this item as unavailable until further notice once the first 15 are pre-sold. Ordering now will ensure that you will be one of the first who are guaranteed to receive this highly antiipated product offering. Click the link to find out more about the Neptune DOS or act now and pre-order yours while you can.

Aquarium Specialty announces new product offerings in it's online catalog.  Recently,  Doctor Eco Systems, the makers of high quality fish, coral and invertebrate foods asked us to consider carrying their coral, inverebrate and fish foods.  After careful study, Aquarium Specialty is pleased to offer these new products.  The following is a review of one of these products known as Doc's Eco Eggs.

Dr Eco Systems Super Eggs

Doc's Eco Eggs are super high in protein-brined fish roe which contains a high fat content including omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids for your fish and corals.  Made from a high quality brined-fish roe which has been shown to send corals and fish into a feeding frenzy.  A benefit of this product  is that it can be shipped via regular UPS/FedEx with no need for refrigeration until it is actually opened for use by the consumer.

The manufacturer reccomends not to overfeed Doc's Eco Eggs or you might have a protein skimmer.  RLSS DC controllable protein skimmers offer a 30 minute feed timer button as do many of the Reef Octopus models so we reccomened pushing the 30 minute feed timer button when using a lot of the food at one time.

Doctor Eco Systems recommends breaking up the egg mass in a cup of water prior to feeding your aquarium, but you may also squeeze some  directly onto your finger and add it directly to the aquarium. The egg gel tends to stay together longer, allowing large fish and larger LPS corals to ingest larger globs of the food. Small fish and corals benefit more from break...

Neptune MPR Magnetic Probe Rack

A few days ago Neptune Systems showed off a new little product they are selling called the MPR or Magnetic Probe Rack as they are calling it.  Here's what Neptune Systems has to say about their new accessory.

Just announced today at ReefStock 2014 - The little new product we promised. It may be little, but it has been in demand for a long time. The MPR - Magnetic Probe Rack was designed specifically for the Apex and will hold our larger diameter temperature probe, pH probe, ORP probe, and salinity probe. It's made from acrylic and with strong neodymium magnets it will hold on tight even on sumps that are 1/2" thick! Retail price on the MPR is $39.95 and it will be available in small quantities this month through Neptune Systems resellers with wide availability next month.

Aquarium Specialty is placing a stock order today for 20 pieces and the expected delivery date is the week of March 31st.  Pre-orders can be made here.

It's not uncommon for the phone to ring and someone wants us to give us our opinnion on the RLSS protein skimmer line.  so we decided to ask our friends at Aqua Nerd permission to repost an article on the RLSS R6i protein skimmer that they recently reviewed.  Thanks to Brandon Klaus at Aqua Nerd for allowing us to repost his article on our blog and it's safe to say we agree with his assessment of the RLSS R6i skimmers.  We would also like to say that much of the information contained in the article can also be applied to the other models of RLSS Protein Skimmers.  Aquarium Specialty will have a new batch of these skimmers arriving next week (week of 4/15/13) in case you would like to place an order for the RLSS R6-i.  Please note that the packaging below is not typical of the way the RLSS skimmers ship.  This was sent direct to Brandon from the factory overseas and they arrive to us in regular retail packaging on a pallet.  Aquarium Specialty then double boxes them to help insure safe delivery.

RLSS R6-i Cup

Ok now for Brandon's review...

Sometimes our product reviews take a little time to fully complete. We strive to test the equipment under both normal and abnormal operating conditions for an extended period of time in an attempt to really gague how the equipment responds. Such is the case for a RLSS R6-i protein skimmer we received last year. We put the DC controllable skimmer on our 80-gallon frag setup and let her run, and we were more than pleased with the tiny skimmer’s performance.
