There seems to be a lot of choices in the ATO arena these days.  Recently Innovative Marine launched their new ATO system and dosing pump and now the Auto Aqua ATO is being imported into the US beginning this November.

The new Auto Aqua Smart ATO-Automatic Top Off System Promises to be BIG but in a small form factor.  About the size of a golf ball, the Smart ATO Automatic Top Off System features a contactless optical water level sensor and smart AFS (Auto Feedback Security) technology.  For us the only way to keep your aquariums salinity stable in marine aquariums is by imploring the use of an ATO system.  The small form factor of the Auto Aqua ATO makes it an ideal choice for many marine aquariums including nano setup where space is typically not a commodity.

Smart ATO-Automatic Top Off

Aquarium Specialty is now accepting pre-orders and the Smart ATO systems will begin shipping sometime in November.

Best of all it is ver easy to install and contains no moving parts that can fail. Integrated with AFS (Auto Feedback Security) technology which provides real-time fail safe protection against failure. You simply move the outside controller to adjust your sump to a desired water level. Its that easy!  The 2 halves attach with a magnet for easy water height adjustment.  No hangers or suction cups needed.

Zeovit CyanoClean

Korallen-Zucht has come out with an interesting new product that we can't wait to get our hands on.  It will be making it's way to Aquarium Specialty next week and we will be putting it through it paces as soon as it lands.  The Zeovit product is called CyanoClean and you guessed it, cleans / wipes out the dreaded red slime (AKA Cyanobacteria) in the aquarium.  Unlike other Cyanobacteria products we have seen on the market for years, CyanoClean eliminates Cyanobacteria though biological means.

Each bottle contains live bacteria but it contains zero antibiotics or cleansing agents that can be harmful to reef aquarium inhabitants.  CyanoClean is completely reef aquarium safe and it won't alter the nutrient composition in any negative way according to Thomas Pohl, the brainchild behind the entire ZEOvit product line.

How CyanoClean Works

CyanoClean's probiotic bacteria get to work by out-competing and eventually "starving out" cyanobacteria in the marine aquarium.  Pre-Orders are now available here and pricing starts out at a reasonable $15.99 for the small size bottle.  Only 2 drops per 100 liters (about 26 gallons) is required daily when cyanobacteria is visibly present in the aquarium and 1 time per week as a preventative measure.

CyanoClean was developed as a companion product to Coral Snow and Zeozym that can both have a positive impact in reducing cyanobacteria in the aquarium.  For extreem cases of cyano outbreaks it may take up to 8 weeks for CyanoClean to wipe out visabl...

Avast Marine Vibe Reactor

About the Avast Marine Vibe...

Filtration media maintenance is one of those aquarium chores that is so easily procrastinated, but often makes a major difference in water quality when performed correctly and timely. Nearly every type of commonly used chemical filtration media suffers from some form of performance degradation when left unmaintained for too long. Most chemical medias, such as carbon, are granular in form, and when exposed to ideal flow rates, become undesirable detritus traps. They can also become covered in bacterial film which limits the ability of water to pass through their pores, reducing efficiency or lifespan. Zeolites are specially selected to grow this bacterial film (or mulm), and need to be stir...

Recently our friends at AquaNerd unboxed one of our products and here's what they had to say about the Vertex Vectra Self Cleaning head.  It should be noted that a self cleaning head can improve skimmer performance by as much as 70%!  For retail pricing and availability please click here. Ok so here's what Brandon's 1st observations of the Vertex Vectra.

Vertex Vectra

One of the many goodies we got from Vertex a few weeks ago was a Vectra and Vectra Lid to go with our Omega 150 protein skimmer. This device is one of the many accessories designed to make the day-to-day life of the average hobbyists a bit easier, as it is designed to keep the neck of the skimmer clean so that it can operate at maximum efficiency for as long as possible. It does this by rotating a silicone blade on the inside of the neck and collection cup, knocking significant amounts of crud that has built up in the skimmer.

So how do we like the Vectra from Vertex Aquaristik? Well, if our unboxing is any indication of how things will go during our long term tests, then we expect it to be a solid performer. The Vectra is well built, with extra care given to protect all of the sensitive electronic components to keep them high and dry. The unit is a bit on the heavy side, probably the result of the use of thick plastic materials along with the motor and other components. Fortunately, this unit isn’t one you’ll be removing very often, so its weight should have no baring on, well, anything.

The entire motor is located on top of t...

Aquarium Specialty and Triton Aquatics have teamed up to distribute the Bluefin Media Reactors (made in the USA).

Image Shown: Bluefin BP600 Reactor (for use with NP Biopellets)

BR600 Biopellet Reactor

Scott & Steve met at MACNA this year and both quickly realized that each company had products that would easily complement the other.  On the fly Steve agreed to try out PO4x4 and NP Biopellets in their Bluefin reactors at MACNA and the result was a perfect match.  The unique patient pending Pelton designed base plate perfectly complemented the use of NP Biopellets and PO4x4.  Without any moving parts and Pelton baseplate design, the Bluefin reactors are the perfect match for NP Biopellets and PO4x4.  With the flow properly dialed in there is no need to use sponges with PO4x4 and for some aquarists that has sometimes been an issue.  By simply adding a ball or gate valve between a properly sized feed pump and the reactor, you can slowly increase the flow rate until the PO4x4 media begins to fluidize in the bottom 2/3 of the reactor.

Ecotech Marine ReefLink

The Ecotech Marine is ReefLink is almost ready for prime time! EcoTech is looking for Radion owners to be part of their final field testing before they introduce the product to the rest of the world.

Are you interested in being a ReefLink beta tester? Visit the link below to find out how to participate in the beta test trial. Note that they are limiting the rollout, so not everyone will be chosen!

What is ReefLink? ReefLink is a wireless bridge that seamlessly integrates your Radion with the web-based EcoSmart Live platform to provide complete custom control over your aquarium lighting.

But controlling your Radion is just the beginning: Soon VorTech pumps will also be controllable through ReefLink. And in the future --- well, let's just say that ReefLink will eventually give you control over just about everything in your tank.

Aquarium will begin to take pre-orders in the very near future.  Click here for the product listing on Aquarium Specialty and to sign up for beta testing visit this link.  The MSRP on the ReefLink appears that it will be $199.00 once it's officially ready for prime time.  No word on the wholesale price yet but it will be posted on the Aqua Specialty site once we are in the know.

On a side note, Aquarium Specialty will have the ReefLink hooked up to the "MATSA Aquarium" Sept. 21st in Columbia, SC for the CMAC annual Aquarium Expo.  For more information about the Expo please visit the CMAC website.

The guys over at Neptune Systems have come out with two new additions to their line of high quality aquarium controllers and accessories.  Due in November, the Automatic Feeding System and AI Wireless Module are sure to be fine additions to the Neptune line.

The Neptune Systems Automatic Feeding System (AFS) is a product that has been asked for by our customers for a long time. We have worked to perfect a product that has the following key characteristics:
  • Feeds pellet or flake food in varying amounts
  • Apex can be set so that the AFS will feed from one time to as many times as you like throughout the day
  • Connects via the Apex Aquabus
  • "Stay Dry" system has a sealed food container that extends and retracts for each feeding. This keeps food dry and prevents clumping.
  • The lowest setting feeds just a few grains of pellet food so multiple small feedings are possible
  • Allows for optimal feeding -- small amounts many times a day
  • Feedings can be combined with other operations such as powering off return pumps, skimmer, etc. and then automatically turning them back on after a set amount of time.
  • Adjustable mounting clip extends up to two inches (or velcro can be used) so it will work in almost every aquarium configuration.
  • Includes 110V or 220V power transformer.
  • Includes 10' AquaBus Cable
  • Compatible with the Apex, Apex Lite, and Apex Jr. AquaControllers.
For years the Apex has given owners of the AI Sol lights a great way to co...
